Tiffany Atkin Exhibition Opening Night
We’re stoked to be presenting a killer show filled with work by amazing artist and illustrator Tiffany Atkin.
Our girl Lusid Art sat down with Tiffany and picked her crazy creative brain.
What are your inspirations?
Everything! I sometimes find myself looking at the strangest of things and thinking about how I can use it in my work… I think a lot of creatives will identify with the idea that you are constantly feeding off your surroundings, mostly it’s exciting but it can be overwhelming too. Over-saturation and
over-stimulation can be an issue for creatives, we now live with a kind of constant ‘scrolling’ consumption of content, so I always try to step away from the tools/studio/screens when I feel bombarded. I take a walk, grab a coffee and just stare at something that isn’t anything to do with what I’m working on. When I’m not making art I’m making music, so sound inspires me a lot too. In terms of subject matter, I’m most inspired by the female form, my travels (particularly my time living in Japan), pattern, texture + surface.
What’s your process?
Lately I’m really enjoying exploring the relationship between traditional and digital mediums. My current work is a kind of mashup of digital and traditional tools as well as exploring surface and texture and the different ways I can
produce a final product through a multidisciplinary approach. Digital gets a bit of hate from certain corners of the art world, but it’s my background and I love mixing it up in my work and creating something tangible using a nontraditional or unexpected approach. I’ll often start with traditional mediums, move to digital, print and build up layers with markers, ink, gouache etc.
There are pretty clear boundaries in place between the two worlds and I love messing with that.
